Very enjoyable. What might be a few sentences in a large-scale history is much more interesting when treated as the subject itself.
“In the run-up to the expedition, Castlereagh had a habit of ignoring information that was inconvenient to him.” 😲😲🙄 Dear God what a loser.
And why do the intelligence and medical readiness failings sound like France during WW I (Thank you Alistair Horne)?
Its ironic in some ways, as Castlereagh was otherwise a very succesful and effective diplomat.
Perhaps he should have stuck to that.
